Happy World Drug Day, June 26th.

Jun 22, 2015

From June 17th to 26th, 1987, an international conference on combating addiction and drug trafficking was held in Vienna. This conference aimed to express the political will of nations in the fight against the devastating and ominous phenomenon of drugs. A document titled C.M.O was drafted in four chapters and approved by the participating countries. This document outlines the comprehensive policies and actions of the participating countries in the field of drugs, committing them to decisively pursue international activities in combating drug trafficking.
This document includes over 35 practical measures, such as assessing consumption rates, prevention through education, the role of media in reintegrating addicts into society and treating them, eradicating illegal poppy fields, dismantling major drug trafficking networks, international legal cooperation, and the like.

The anniversary of the C.M.O document's approval, on June 26th / Tir 5th, was declared as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Each year, ceremonies related to this day are held in Iran under the title "Struggle, Sacrifice, and Martyrdom."

Drug addiction is one of the most significant social, economic, and health problems, the consequences of which pose a serious threat to human society and lead to social stagnation in various fields. Furthermore, its destructive effects contribute to the decline of many cultural and moral values and norms, thereby seriously endangering the health of society.

The ominous phenomenon of drug trafficking, more than being a profiteering, commercial, and economic activity in the arena of the international economic mafia, is an effective, efficient, and strategic tool in expanding the system of domination of the world's powerful over underdeveloped countries.

In cultural invasion and infiltration, the phenomenon of drugs is the most important factor in the corruption and moral degradation of societies. Unfortunately, the spread of drug use in today's society has reached such an extent that it has even drawn the educated and intellectual class towards it. Combating addiction is also, certainly, more than a mission in line with the specified duties of the law enforcement forces; it is a strategic action in confronting the tools of the global system of domination in the moral degradation of societies with specific political goals.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, in combating the entry and spread of these devastating substances, has taken measures to control and protect the eastern borders, including the construction of over a thousand kilometers of roads, dozens of border posts, watchtowers, and the excavation of several kilometers of canals, etc., and thousands of the children of this land have also been martyred in this arena.
